    3. Hi List I have just put my family history cd into my dvd drive and there is no device recognised. On trying to diagnose the problem I got this message: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available. Nothing comes up and my drive is still not available. Any clues would help as the cd has various data on it I need to retreive. Regards Mike Hayes

    2. Hiya Mike, Not a computer expert here by any means, but have you tried maybe rebooting? Barring that, there is a computer help list on RootsWeb with the description: Topic: A mailing list for the discussion and sharing of information regarding computer questions in general, for all operating systems, with the focus on the use of computers in genealogy research including problems encountered. If ya wanna check out the list then you can send a new email to [email protected] with the word subscribe in the subject line and in the body of the message. Hope this helps, Lainee > [Original Message] > From: Mike Hayes <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> > Date: 10/7/2008 4:00:08 AM > Subject: [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] No Gen request > > Hi List > I have just put my family history cd into my dvd drive and there is no device recognised. 1. [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] LIVESEY family in Liverpool, mid 1800's
    2. Eric Winstanley
    3. Hi List, My wife's 2x Great Grandmother, Grace LIVESEY, was born at Stone Street, Liverpool in 1846 with father John and mother Ellen nee BENNETT. Grace had a brother Thomas, born about 1837 again in Liverpool. I would be interested to hear from anyone with information on the LIVESEY family. I have traced who I think is the same Thomas, through until 1881 and have found a great deal of information on Thomas' family and associated families. Before I enter these details onto my family tree, and before I send for Thomas' marriage certificate, I was just curious as to know if anyone has details on this particular LIVESEY family. Regards, Eric

    3. Hi Walter - pleased to hear from you. It's 7 am as I write, and I am leaving at 8.30 to go to Bonnie Scotland for a few days, so when I get back I will have another go on "Scotland's people" and will then be able to ask some questions about using the site. Thanks a lot for your kind offer of help. My response to "New girl Margaret" was delayed for some reason and came back to me, but obviously it has been seen now, so perhaps Margaret will join in too Marged Hello Marged, and All on the list, I hope this finds you well? and everyone else on the list. You asked New girl Margaret if she had experience of S'people? I use it all the time for my Good Ladies Tree, is there something I can help with ? I meant this as a Reply, but hit the delete instead, hopefully I'll be using our list more now as things are at last beginning to get into some sort of routine, but there can still be Hiccups! Kind Regards to All, Walter.

Amongst the scam sites are: http://www.freebmd.com http://www.cheshire.bmd.org.uk http://www.wiltshire.bmd.org.uk I.e. subtle, but significant differences between these names and the real ones, which are respectively: http://www.freebmd.org.uk http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk http://www.wiltshirebmd.org.uk There are several others, all along the same style, simply adding an extra 'dot' or changing the domain type from ".org.uk" into ".com" My guess is that any site that ends in ".bmd.org.uk" i.e. with a dot in front of the "bmd" is likely to be a scam, as this part of the web site name is known as the domain name and it can be prefixed by any other text, such as www.cheshire as in the example above. As UKBMD aims to link to all available genuine BMD and census web sites, my recommendation is simply that you add the UKBMD's site address into your "Favorites" list on your browser and then you can be assured that you will only be shown valid web sites. 3. New material on www.liverpool-schools.co.uk Just finished some early analysis of 1903 Education Handbook, which lists 1,656 teachers in Liverpool's non-denominational schools. Just over 80% of those listed were women. Apart from Alan WILLIAMS at Westminster Rd, all other infants' teachers were women. Teachers in Intermediate Mixed sections were exclusively female, as were teachers in schools for the 'mentally defective' and 'physically and mentally defective'. 7% of teachers in Senior Boys' Departments were female, but no men taught in Senior Girls' Departments! I have also uploaded almost 370 Teacher Registrations. These go from the 1880s to the 1940s. This is an ongoing project - hit and miss whether I find people as there is no way of searching geographically. If you think an ancestor of yours may be listed, please contact me and I'll have a look. http://www.liverpool-schools.co.uk/html/registrations.html Hope someone finds something of use! Rachel

    1. [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] New member looking for Thomas Williams EVANS b.1867 & WH EVANS engravers, Liverpool
    2. N Milne
    3. I'm trying to trace what happened to the printing and engraving business WH Evans in South Castle Street, Liverpool before WW2. It's found in the following Liverpool street directories: In 1900 Gore's Directory of Liverpool and Birkenhead, is listed under Engravers is William H. EVANS, 7 Hampden Buildings, 11 South Castle Street,W (not sure what W means) In 1911 Gores Directory there is a William H. EVANS, Engraver office 13 Hampden Bldgs, 11 South Castle St. Also the 1911 had: Thomas W. EVANS, Engraver (William H. EVANS) 83 Barndale Rd, Mossley Hill. ( Thomas Williams EVANS b. c1867 is the son most likely to have taken over the printing business from his father William Henry EVANS b. 1839 ) In 1938 Gores, there is a William H. EVANS Engraver 11a South castle St. A search for South Castle street seems to reveal a road full of manufacturing & skilled businesses including watchmakers, nautical instrument makers, printers etc. South Castle street, from looking at various websites, was all but destroyed in the May 1941 Blitz, shown quite graphically here: http://www.20thcenturyimages.co.uk/trolleyed/3/18/121/index.htm A search for Hampden Buildings reveals little. There is another W.H. EVANS printers based in Chester, although a recent conversation with one of their descendants has revealed that despite the same name, a similarly long trading history, and a very similar trade, they aren't connected. I am aware of Hugh EVANS printers 56 South Castle Street in 1942 (although how they traded there I'm not sure) and I'm investigating the name. Does anybody have any information as to what happened to the business W H EVANS or Thomas Williams EVANS? Thomas married Emily Jane Ellis 14.10.1899 at the Presbyterian Church in Catharine Street in the district of Liverpool. Can anyone please give further information on this church and where it was. Many thanks Nancy Milne
