    3. Hi Paula if you want a look up for your English roots e.g. census ect just ask and will look for you. Also if you go to www.UpMyStreet.com and put in the post code where you are staying you can find the nearest pharmacy, petrol station Library, restaurants ect . We use it every time we go away so know where everything is. Lesley -----Original Message----- From: Paula My partner and I watch this list every day, and only occasionally contribute, but I have a real interest in the Liverpool/Merseyside area. We're in NZ and we're doing our big OE to Scotland and England next year. I hope, and know, that we will get the same feelings you have. Our whole trip is being arranged around genealogy -

    3. So glad you enjoyed your trip so much Pat, and sorry that we didn't meet up. Perhaps some other time, if you pass this way again. I wonder what parts of Scotland you visited? Marged Hello List, I am still on cloud nine with all the meetings of family and being able to get a feel of the area our ancestors lived, worked and played. And the lovely Churches. England and Scotland are much different then here in Canada. To see all the brick buildings in England and stone buildings in Scotland. It was all so breath taking for me. When you live in a place, you have no idea as to how others see what " you, we " take for granted. Our whole trip was a learning experience, one can never imagine till you see with your own eyes. What a joy it was to visit the U K. The epitome of my family research to go to the places our families came from and to meet and be with my cousins. We were first in London and did the tourist things there. Then on to Nottinghan and Leicestershire where Bill's family were from. We then took the coach to Liverpool. Where we were met and went by taxi for to visit and tour Birkenhead, Chester, Hoylake, Frankby and the cemeteries many are buried in. It brought tears to me when I visited these places for the first time. To be and see were my ancestors walked, worked, played and lived. To see the Churches they married in. To be with the families and spend time with them. We went on the Mersery ferry to Liverpool. To see things in Liverpool including inside St. Nicholas Church where many of my family married and had there babies Bapt. Also went on the tour under the Mersey tunnel. I had no idea Birkenhead and Liverpool were only a 10 minute ferry ride apart. And Wales being so close. We then took the train to Scotland and enjoyed our stay there. Where here the buildings were of beautiful stone. also many of there fences. When we set out on our trip. We wanted to include as much as we could including forms of travel. Everything was so different for us. When we live in a place. We take so much for granted. To be a visitor we see so much. With doing my family research it was all on paper. But to go visit and see with my own eyes was truly a blessing which I will remember always. The people were all so friendly and the hospitality was wonderful. We were so well treated and cared for where ever we went. We were truly made welcomed. Many things to be Thankful for with this being our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend and always the memories will last forever. My family names FULTON, FOGG, BROWN, HARDMAN , SHERLOCK, ASHTON and many more. 3. Hi Walter There's something up with my list mail at the moment, as I keep having to release my own mail from the trap so it's turning up days late. My great grandmother, Jane Fisher, was born in New Lanark in about 1955. I think her mother was Jane McDougall. We visited New Lanark just now and found it a wonderful place - must have been amazing when it was all built and Robert Owen began to put his pure Socialist principles into place. Marged Hello Marged, Glad your back safe and sound, and it is still raining up here, I'm not sure what's been happening with the Mails, I only got yours late on Wednesday. Anyway It's good to be back on the list, I hope you had a good break in Scotland? May I ask, what names you are connected to in Lanarkshire? as my good lady has among others, CALDWELL, CRAIG, FORREST, LEES and THOMSON. Regards, Walter.

Happy to share insights on how we use scotlandspeople including getting response to problems Have also done occasional lookups or preliminary searches in return for work in other resources whether by an individual or others in a group. Units purchased in block of 30 for only £6 mean that it should be cheap enough for anyone to do their own online work One thing we learned early on was to spend the extra and widen a search and pay for all index entries for a family or at least make the count up to a full page of 25 .. Then as we came back to look for more of them we already had the full list over say 40 years for a county or in the case of HIRD we took the full 19 pages of index for all Scotland. Felt like a chunk to pay several years ago but means we can see those who strayed as we fill in the generations now. and for those of us in Scotland there will be lower cost units available through our local libraries .. This is already announced on the Glasgow Mitchell Library site .. Our Lanark library say it will have the vouchers in November. The date of death is important as there's a good chance they we buried about 3,4,5 days after death and this will greatly shorten the search times.
