Hi all There is nothing on Ancestry website to indicate that they have issues so I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issues as me. I can get the search screen. I can type in the name etc. It returns me the list of finds ie. all the census's bmd etc. When I then click on say 1901 census - nothing! This happens with every single one of them. It has been going on for a few days now. I am getting no response to an email to Ancestry. Actually come to think about it there is no list traffic either so perhaps its Ancestry & Rootsweb?? Any ideas? Christine Cunningham

I have been purchasing certificates from Smedley Hydro since this service first came on line - this facility means you have to pay by Credit Card from their secure site. I pay £7 and have not yet been charged postage. This equates to approx AUD17 and the bank charges approx 35 cents (70 cents for £14) ............. and the service is excellent. Thank you Marged, Margaret and Errol , I have been ordering certificates for nearly twenty years but a certificate when bought in the UK costs £7.00 by the time I pay in South African Rands it costs me more than R100 at present, too much for a pensuiner! Kind regards Magdalen . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2008 9:03 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] Look-up please On 14/10/08 22:37, "Magdalen McGuinness" <[email protected]> wrote: > I do not have a birth certificate for > the daughter as the cost from where I live is horrendous. I stand to be corrected, but I thought that if you ordered certificates from Smedley Hydro in Southport the cost would be £7 plus postage? Marged Thank you Ann for that information. I do not have a birth certificate for the daughter as the cost from where I live is horrendous.
Thank you Ann for that information. I do not have a birth certificate for the daughter as the cost from where I live is horrendous. Sorry Magdalen, but electoral registers are arranged by roads, not alphabetically. So you really need an address to look anyone up. Have you got a birth certificate for the daughter? That would give you an address. Or Ancestry have British telephone directories for that sort of period. Were they the sort of people who might have had a phone? Edward G WILDERMUTH married Edith WHITLEY at Hampstead, London in 1918. Their first child, Raymond was born there in 1919. Sometime between 1919 and 1924 they moved to Wallasey as the birth of their daughter, Moira Phyllis, was registered there in 1924. A third child, Anthony was born in 1929. There may have been other children but I don't have a record of them. I am interested in making contact with any descendants or anyone who knows this family. My particular interest is in Edith WILDERMUTH nee WHITLEY. I have the relevant census and GRO information for her. David
Pat and Bill My partner and I watch this list every day, and only occasionally contribute, but I have a real interest in the Liverpool/Merseyside area. We're in NZ and we're doing our big OE to Scotland and England next year. I hope, and know, that we will get the same feelings you have. Our whole trip is being arranged around genealogy - the villages and cemeteries, and a trip to France to visit the battleground where my grandad earned his NZ Military Medal in World War One: a couple of days on the Isle of Skye where my great great grandad came from...and everything in between! Culloden, where I'm sure there will be tears shed. While we may do some of the 'touristy' areas, our real interest is in the places of our forebears. A picnic on the shores of Loch Shiel or stopping in a pretty village. My partner is hoping to find some living relatives, yet undiscovered. Thank you for your posting....it fills me with more dreams of our holiday to come. Hi Marj, It was lovely talking with you on the phone. Not the same as meeting but hopefully one day we can get together. The day we were in hopes of meeting in Hoylake. Was a beautiful day which I did get to put my feet in Hoylake, the water was beautiful and warm passing over the sandy beach. When we were at the old life boat station taking pictures. We were greeted by two fellows who kindly asked if we would like the life boat station opened to have a look around. Which I jumped at the invitation. As my 3X Gt. Grandfather had been a crew member . I had an autograph book with me in which all that we met put in there names and a few words. I took pictures of everyone we met, to put beside there names in this book. Which I will treasure always. We took the train to Avermore, Scotland where we were met to go on to Morayshire. This is were we were staying. I got to see my first Scottish Piper shortly after our arrival in Avermore. We went to a stramash in Dufftown, and a shindig in Aberlour. Beautiful music and dancing. We went close to Balmoral Castle and went into the Church the Queen uses when she is at Balmoral. We covered a lot of ground and seen much on our UK trip. One day perhaps we will be able to return. There is much more we would love to see and do. Cheers for now, Pat and Bill ----- Original Message ----- From: Marged To: [email protected] Cc: Pat and Bill Sent: Friday, October 10, 2008 3:26 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-MERSEYSIDE] Wonderful Memories of the UK. So glad you enjoyed your trip so much Pat, and sorry that we didn't meet up. Perhaps some other time, if you pass this way again. I wonder what parts of Scotland you visited? Marged >> snip >>
