    3. I am very pleased to see Gordon's mail coming through to this list at last. We have lost a great deal of valuable help from this lister for a long time - let's hope there has been some glitch at Rootsweb which they have now fixed, and that there will be no problems in the future. Welcome back Gordon Marged Apologies for the tests. Would be interested to know whether any other subscribers are able to receive posts but not send them, as has been my predicament for the last month or so? Gordon

    3. Dear Tomas I am thrilled with this information, thank you so much. I think I will have to accept him too. The year 1941 seems about right for his death. Perhaps he was economical with the truth where his age is concerned. The 1901 census has his age as 24 and although there are plenty of PERKIN/PERKINS named Arnold he is the only one I have found with the initial S. There is also a birth registered in Kingston in Sep. Q. 1876 of Arnold Scott PERKIN but the family seem to have added the "S" to the surname later as I checked out the various census forms. Kind regards Magdalen > Dear Magdalen, > > The age seems a bit young but he also seems to be the only and the most > likely so I think you may just have to accept him!! > > Perkins Arnold S. 59. 3. I think one needs to be wary of ages on death certificates as they are often a guess by the informant.  Perhaps in this case the fact that his wife was so much younger might have led him to reduce his age to be more acceptable to her. 3. Thanks Andy! Now that you've narrowed it down to the correct Kelvin Road and that residences were there at some point and probably including 1924, I think you're right that it may be helpful to know if a directory would indicate who lived there in July 1924. It may be Hilda and William or perhaps they were staying with someone whose name I recognize. By the way, since you replied I did look at Google Earth and I see the houses and the huge open space. Does anyone have access to such directory documentation? Or alternatively can someone point out to me how I can access a directory? Here is another question that someone may be able to answer. When widows remarried did the registration use their maiden name or their surname from the first marriage? Was there a consistent application of whichever method was supposed to be used? In my case, I'm wondering if I should be searching for Hilda M Anderson remarrying or under her maiden name of Brown. Hi Keith > > Two of my ancestors Hilda M. Anderson (b. Abt. 1888 in Gosforth, > Northumberland) and her son William (b. 1912 in Boldon, Durham) > returned from West Virginia landing at Liverpool in July 1924 after William Sr. > died > in 1923. Kelvin Road, BIRKENHEAD is in Tranmere off Holt Road, near Mersey Park and is a short road that consisted of a school and Methodist Chapel on one side, and a few houses and another school on the other. There has been some changes in recent years as both the schools and chapel have now gone replaced by what looks like houses and open space. Googling "8 kelvin road birkenhead" indicates it was a house for sale for 19,000 GDP in 2001 so there is a reasonable chance it's still there. If someone can do a look up in a diectory for around that time then the occupants name may help. Andy

    3. Hi All: I have some questions regarding British subjects returning to the UK from America. Two of my ancestors Hilda M. Anderson (b. Abt. 1888 in Gosforth, Northumberland) and her son William (b. 1912 in Boldon, Durham) returned from West Virginia landing at Liverpool in July 1924 after William Sr. died in 1923. Their new UK address was given as 8 Kelvin Rd., Birkenhead. Does anyone know or could point me in the right direction to search myself, whether this was likely to be a residence or was it simply the address where passengers might go upon arrival? I notice that Kelvin road is quite near the docks. Also, would anyone know if the remains of deceased individuals could be transported home and, if so, would that be noted on a ship manifest? I'm not sure that his remains would come with them a year after his death but I have data on other family members coming home shortly after William Sr.'s accident. If, indeed, these two settled in Birkenhead, I'd be interested in sharing information with anyone who might recognize these as family. Although I have not found data to support the fact, I wonder if one or both eventually married in the area. Thanks Keith Thornton Ontario, Canada

The Catholic Cathedral of Christ the King now stands on that site, so your husband will know exactly where it is. Glad to be of help! Just along from Sayers cafe on the ground floor when you enter from Clayton Square. Marged Can anyone tell me where Shannon Street Liverpool was located.
