I am trying to find a family in the 1871 census. In 1861, I have them living at 7 Crystal Street in 1861, District 38, ecclesiastical district Christchurch. In 1861, the family was; James Travis b 1822 Ashton under Lyne Jane Travis (wife) b 1830 Ashton under Lyne Elizabeth Travis b. 1859 Subsequent children born before 1861 were: James b. 1867 Alfred b. 1870 Both of these were registered in St Georges, as was a later birth, Arthur, in 1873. James (the father) died in 1879, registered at Blackley, and in 1881 his widow and family were at Harpurhey. However, there is no sign of the family in Manchester (or indeed elsewhere in the country) in 1871. I have searched using similar names, but can't find them. Does anyone know whether there are gaps in the census information for Manchester in 1871? Jim Whitton
Hi Jim, Ancestry have the family indexed as Maxie. It is very difficult to read but the ages and birth places match. I have sent the first page of the family off list. Hope this helps, Christine -----Original Message----- From: Jim Whitton Sent: Saturday, August 03, 2013 1:44 PM To: eng-manchester@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-MAN] Travis family 1871 census I am trying to find a family in the 1871 census.
