Hi All, Walter PROCTOR joined the army in 1914 and died in 1918, military service no 17989. He was born 2 Oct 1891 in Harpurhey, the son of Frederick PROCTOR and Mary Ann. There is a service record for him on Ancestry. On image 5840 there is a list of his family. Unfortunately it is very difficult to read. The list is the family in 1920. His father died in 1918. His mother, Mary Ann was living at 203, Grey Mare Lane with Albert. I cannot read the addresses for Thomas, Norman and Frederick. Some I can make some guesses at but I would rather hear your ideas before I bias them. I would expect Elizabeth to be living with her mother at that time and I have no idea about Edith yet but their addresses are even more unreadable. I would be very grateful to anyone who has a stab at interpreting them. Christine
Christine, For Norman it appears to be Salisbury, South Africa. There is a Salisbury Island at Durban. Frederick looks like Bush Brotherhood, Australia. They were an Anglican group [clergy] in Australia. Thomas seems to be living at the ?Clermont hotel, (xxxxxxxx), Dunkirk?. The mother and Albert look like the same address and for Elizabeth it also looks like 203 + same street name + Openshaw, as mother and Albert. Liane
Hi Liane, Many thanks. That is what I thought it said for Norman but wanted someone else's opinion as Salisbury is not in South Africa. But that is not to say that his mother did not think it was and there is a record of an N Proctor going to Cape Town which could be him which misled her. Or it could be Salisbury Island. I got Australia for Frederick but it also seems to say N 2 after it and I wondered if it could be NZ for New Zealand. I had never heard of the Bush Brotherhood so I am going to have to look them up. But he was a theological student so that fits. With Thomas I got as far as Hotel. I still can't make out the rest even knowing what you think it is. In 1911 Thomas is a student vet. I will follow up these leads. Thanks again, Christine -----Original Message----- From: lfenimore Sent: Monday, February 25, 2013 2:12 AM To: eng-manchester@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ENG-MAN] Walter PROCTOR and his family Christine, For Norman it appears to be Salisbury, South Africa.
