Morning all, Paul Dixon, from the marvellous Lancashire OPC, has sent me an update to changes that have been made to the search engine facility on the website: "I have introduced two new features to Search, "Exact Name Match" and "Search Churches in radius". Previously, entering a name would produce all matches to that name and variants. First you may have noticed that the range of names that create a match has been extended, so now it should be possible to get a match from most of the spellings that occur in the registers. Having got a match with all variants displayed, placing a tick in the exact match box should cause it to return only those entries where the spelling matches that entered in the search form. The radius search is a little more flexible than whole parish or county, it allows you to match all entries at establishments within a given radius of the selected church. This does require a church to be selected to give the centre point on which that radius is based. It will not work on whole parish or whole county as there is no reference point for that radius. Enter a whole number and select for either miles or kilometres. It will not accept distances above 90 miles or 150 km."  These excellent new features are already in operation for records that were last loaded onto the site - so any searches made by the engine will return results from all the databases that are available on the system.
