I believe I have the death certificate of my 3 x great grandfather George Rimmer in Eccleston, Prescot in 1846. This man has proved extremely elusive and I have been trying to look up the address at which he died in 1841 or 1851, but Find My Past doesn't seem to have a listing for Gracious Street. The writing is pretty clear, and in any case I have done some wildcard searches and can't find anything like Gracious Street. Does anyone know this area well and if so, can you please suggest where this address might be? George and his family were in Eccleston in 1841 but the address is no more specific than that. Sadly, the marriage of George and his wife, Susannah Howard, has escaped me and they don't seem to have registered any of their children's births, so all I have pertaining to George is a handful of christenings and the fact that his widowed mother, Isabella appears to be with him in 1841. Many thanks Joanne
There is a 'Gracouse' St. in Eccleston in 1851. But only one residence on the street. And the street right before it is Green Lane. After it is Chapel Coatags/Cottages and the parsonage. These are listed under 'other establishments, Prescot' at the beginning of the street listing. If I put it in Gracouse a street name it doesn't come up, so just use Eccleston in 'residential place' box, nothing else filled in, and you get a list of all the streets. Don't see it in 1841. Liane
Thank you Liane and Peter for your help. George was working as an ag lab or labourer at the time of his death so I suppose it is possible that he was living in a rather remote part of the town. I'll have a look at the inhabitants in 1851 and see if I can make any connections. Hi Peter Thank you for this resource. I wasn't aware of its existence before. None of the roads on the list looks like the street which is written on the death certificate, so maybe his street was newly created after the census.
