Hello Roy, I did indeed find it on Ancestry... Household Schedule Number: 198 Piece: 2933 Folio: 100 Page Number: 41 And as a P.S. to Ghyll, there is also this entry on Ancestry for a marriage: Name: William Henry Age: 21 Birth Year: abt 1828 Marriage Date: 17 Jan 1849 Parish: Manchester, St Mary, St Denys and St George Father's Name: William Henry Spouse's Name: Catharine Kearney Spouse's Age: 20 Spouse's Father's Name: Luke Kearney Archive Roll: 716 Sadly the site isn't allowing for a view of the original certificate so I can't confirm any occupation, but it might be something to keep on the back burner.... Regards, Sally As a matter of interest, could you give me the precise reference in 1861, assuming you found them at Ancestry, since they seem to be missing from Findmypast? In 1871 Catherine's place of birth was definitely given as Manchester. -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Famous family trees blog: http://blog.findmypast.co.uk/tag/roy-stockdill/
Hi Ghyll, I noticed that the Manchester images on Ancestry were working again, so I have gone back to see if I could find any more information on the marriage of William Henry and Catharine Kearney.... Jan 17th 1849 - Parish Church of Manchester. William Henry. Age 21. Bachelor. Occupation: Striker. (of) 20 Pollard Street. Father: William Henry, occupation: Tailor Catharine Kearnery. Age 20. Spinster. No occupation. (of) 98 Pollard Street. Father: Luke Kearney, occupation: Weaver Witnesses: (the mark of) Jane Brookes and John Brookes. Hope this helps! I have lost track of who originally posted this query, but I think there might be a connection here with some of my ancestors. I have a Catherine Murray (b 1839) who married a man called Kearney. This won't be the same Catherine Kearney who married your William Henry because the age is 10 years out, however, Catherine's sister Susan and her family lived at 16 Pollard Street in 1869, and they actually lived at 20 Pollard Street in 1901. Susan's son's future wife and his family lived in the house in between - 18 Pollard Street. It would seem unlikely that two unconnected families of Kearney lived in the same house 20 years apart, so I would like to keep in touch and see if we can share any research on this family.
