I am trying to find out about a family called Billington who lived at 277 Moston Lane till about 1950's Joseph ran a bike shop in the front room and had a collection of old bikes in a shed. His wife Elizabeth was a Irish and one of their daughter's, May, lived with them. I think he also had a longish garden at the back where he had a greenhouse and also sold flowers. This is my husband's grandparents but he can only remember bits about it as he was only a youngster when his grandmother died at the house as his parent had left Blackley and lived in Withington and his grandfather died a year or so later at 223 Crescent Road Crumpsall. I don't know if this was a nursing home as May still lived in the house in Moston Lane. I do hope someone can shed a bit of light on this family. Best wishes to you all Carol
Hi Carol This link http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Manchester/ explains that 123 Crescent Road later became 223 Crescent Road. If you Google 123 Crescent Road you will find numerous references to it as a workhouse, asylum and hospital.
