Can, I ask an uncomfortable question please ? How do you know that Dora's maiden name was Finestein ? If you look at the 1901/1911 census, there were three Solomon children born in Stockport and two in Manchester . A quick check of Cheshire B M D suggests that the three children born in Stockport have three different mother's maiden names. David b 1898 has Tenstall, Joe b 1900 has Finestein, and Sarah b 1903 has Turner, yet the 1911 census say Barnett and Dora(h) had been married 20 years. There does not appear to be births for Solomon and Julia in Manchester at the time they were born. Leah's birth is registered in Stoke, but Stafford B M D does not give maiden names as yet. Barnet appears to have died in 1944 and his Probate grants executorship to Jacob Portnoy. Any clues there, or in the Will ? Just a few thoughts Antony Lambert -----Original Message----- From: eng-manchester-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-manchester-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Patricia White Sent: 30 June 2013 21:55 To: eng-manchester@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-MAN] Where is best to search I am searching for a marriage of Barnett Solomon and Dora Finestein? They lived in Manchester for a number of years from around 1900 On the 1911 census Barnett is listed as being from Pheterchof Ackerve which could be Petersberg but he is listed as being Polish. His wife is Dora(h) Finestein and they married around 1871. She was from Russia and is listed as being from Nycotod, and haven't a clue where that could be or where to start searching. This is Jewish family history and very new to me. Their son is Joe/Joseph Solomon who I am particulary interested in. He is Joe on his birth cert but on one census is Joseph and also on his death cert. He is listed on the Manchester Schools admission and on enlisting for the army in 1918. Really would love to find more on his parents but haven't a clue how to go about this. Any help greatly received.
