We had a similar case in our family history. Robert Barlow married Mary Fallows at M/c Cathedral 2nd of November 1845 and Little James arrived a little early!!! on 14 November 1845. Mary registered him on 22 November 1845. I think they forgot he had been registered and Robert registered James in March 1846. This only came to light when I applied for the certificate. So it does happen.
