Hi Anne, did you subscribe to the Rootsweb Derbyshire list ? There are lots of Derbyshire Spencer's. Did you look for your Spencer's in the 1851 census? Yes I am on that list, also the Wirksworth site which is excellent. As I said, I haven't done much work on them.
