Hi Listers I'm still scratching... looking for the elusive Holmes Buildings, Hulme. Could be a registrar's error, perhaps? In Pigot & Deans 1821 directory I found Hulmes Buildings, Bailey Street, London Road In Pigot & Slaters 1841 - Hulmes Buildings, Broad Street, Pendleton In Directory of Man. & Salford 1853 - Hulmes Buildings Pendleton None of these strictly Hulme, are they? But then there's Holts Buildings, Ferneley St., Hulme. Does anyone recognize these? Is this address a possibility? I'm assuming the word 'Buildings' means a terrace of houses. Interestingly, in the 1841 Census Charles FLETCHER was living in Chatham Street, C-on-M. And between 1834 and 1841 he had been living in Wilton St, off Oxford Street. Maybe his business address was ??? Buildings? But it was on a death registration so that would be a bit odd, I think. I'm chatting on. So I'll stop. Any thoughts from anyone out there would be much appreciated. Ruth (very puzzled)
