Hi Lorna If you've already done this, as I suggested before, and not had any success then forgive me raising it again. I'm suggesting that you contact the National Archives in Kew, which is where military records are kept, to ask if they hold the records of this particular regiment. If they do, and you can't go yourself, it may mean that you have to employ a military historian to search the records for you as NA don't do individual searches. A quick glance at their website _www.nationalarchives.gov.uk_ (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/) shows that they do hold records for the 40th Foot for the period you are searching. In my own experience, searching for a similar regiment at the same time period, I was able to check my ancestor's whereabouts to the day, plus many of his details including weight, height, colour of eyes and medical records whilst a member of the regiment and, of course, his pay. Failing this you could try a general enquiry to the Imperial War Museum, but I have no experience of that. Good luck Ruth
I would just like to endorse the message from Ruth. I had to employ a researcher to get the information on my Grandfather who was a Royal Marine in WW1. It cost £23.50 eighteen months ago , and the information on those records is phenomonal! I also got another load of records from the Fleet Air Arm Museum...for free! (They are happy to receive a donation though.) The veterans on the following link website are par excellence!! I had so much personal help from them. Good Luck to all researching the war years. http://www.militaryresearchon.com/ ----- Original Message ----- From: RuthGenda@aol.com >snip" I'm suggesting that you contact the National Archives in Kew, which is where military records are kept, to ask if they hold the records of this particular regiment.
