    3. My great grandmother was born Louisa Hill in Salford in 1854, these are the details that I have on her. I think I have the correct birth from Lancashirebmd which I am going to send for.She married my great grandfather Rowland Sykes Bamford at Ogden St. Chapel Ardwick in 1875 and had my grandfather another Rowland in 1876. Now this is where I have a bit of a riddle. I have for Louisa the 1861, 1871, 1881, and 1901 censuses, after she married in 1875 all the censuses state she was married but she was never with Rowland , infact there is only one time that I found her son with her and that was the 1901 census in Blackpool. The 1881 and 1891 census shows Rowland living with his mother Eliza in Ardwick as a single man . In 1901 transcribed as Roland Banford he was shown as married to a Mary Ann and a daughter Clara. It also said he was born in Macclesfield but I think this might have been Mary. When he died a few years later it was his sister that notified the birth. I think I have found Louisa's correct family her father John was deceased when she married but through the censuses I found her 1871 living with her sister Charlotte Blair who was shown on the 1861 census with John and Jane Hill. On the 1881 census she was living with her sister Eliza Wren. The siblings I have found are Charlotte, Samuel and Eliza Ford Hill, there might be a Mary but have not checked that properly. Where she was in 1891 remains a mystery. She was'nt with her son who was in Hulme at the time. Any suggestions or help very much welcome Jean

    3. Hi Jean Have had a look but have been unable to find her in 1891 either. But I did notice that Rowland S on the 1881 and 1891 census appears to be shown as married rather than single...if you look at the other entries nearby you can compare the writing for 1881 and in 1891 they actually write S for single rather than Unmarried. It does seem a fairly odd family - with no one living where they are supposed to be. And then Rowland being married to someone else by 1901. Did you manage to track a divorce down? Did you find Samuel and his wife in 1891(I couldn't see him) - my guess would be that perhaps she moved on to live with another sibling. 3. Hi Jean, I don't think you mentioned locating Louisa BAMFORD's son Rowland in the 1891 Census, I found him boarding at the home of Mrs Jane HOPWOOD / HEMPWOOD / HAPWOOD, Grocer, at 14 & 16 Mount Street, Chorlton on Medlock, aged 15 years, single, grocer's assistant. (reference: RG12 piece 3182 folio 138 page 1) Hope this helps, Cheers, Diane Sydney, NSW Australia -----Original Message----- From: eng-manchester-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-manchester-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jean Thatcher Sent: Sunday, 1 June 2008 5:10 PM To: eng-manchester-l@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-MAN] Help or suggestions needed My great grandmother was born Louisa Hill in Salford in 1854, these are the details that I have on her.
