Hi List, Mike, on the map you so kindly sent St Phillips was close to Peel Street, how far is the Sacred Trinity away?. It was the Sacred Trinity that William Verdon was Minister at...and can you tell me if Peel Street is still there today? Thank you for the piece re St Johns,Pendlebury,l will take a look and maybe send to them and ask where William may have lived when he went there in 1854. Williams' brother Edward was Minister at Tottington. are those two places far apart? Pauline...in a cold but no rain,Aus.
Hi Pauline, Peel St is still there ---- but whether in the same place is another matter. In modern day - as the crow flies, it is a mile from Tottington which comes under Bury (Greater Manchester). However, as the crow flies, I live a mile from the centre of Manchester, and by road, it is actually 10 miles. If you or anyone else on the list wants a scan from my Greater Manchester street map, then I am happy to help. However, this site is good: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ No doubt Mike will be able to help regarding yesteryears! Trinity church was about 20 minutes or more walk to the east of Peel street on the north side of Chapel street. I have sent you the map section dated 1844.
