    3. Hi All, Can anyone tell me what is meant, (by presumably the enumerator at a later stage) where he has written "sick" by the side of these 2 occupations: Monthly Nurse and Midwife? (Different enumerators) And what's a monthly nurse? Ideas gratefully received. Pat W

    3. Hi Pat: The enumerator was distinguishing between nurses of the sick i.e. midwives and "monthly" nurses who took care of women for the month after confinement. Also a "sick" nurse would be one who was taking care of an invalid or in a hospital. The other kind of nurses were taking care of (mostly) healthy children. Often these nurses would be children themselves so you'd have a 10 year old taking care of a couple of babies. It's a wonder any of them survived. Regards, Irene
