Hello list members, My grandmother's foster father, George W. Heywood was a Quartermaster Sergeant discharged from the Royal Engineers at Portsmouth on 17/10/1876 after 21 years service. His service record says he intended to reside after discharge at 60 Sackville Street, Manchester. Can anyone please tell me who was living there at 1871 census time and who was there ten years later. GWH was married in 1864 at Southwark Surrey. He and his wife are missing from the 1871 census, perhaps because he was then still a serving soldier, but in 1881 and 1891 he and his wife and "daughter" were at 5 Sidney Street, Salford Lancs. Grateful for any information you can provide, Paul
Hi Paul, Just to say that you are not forgotten - it is very time consuming to find streets - I've been looking for ages but not found it yet! Fingers crossed!
