Thanks for all your help Mike I have also been trying to help another friend with a problem this afternoon so couldn't reply straight away. Funnily enough when you type in Oakenshaw on google and look at an aerial map, it is the correct area isnt it. I (my significant but not genealogically gifted other half) also had relations at Openshaw so it would be very easy to fall into the trap of thinking of the Gorton area..
