And the family surname spelling changed as well from census to census. Have you searched http://freebmd.org.uk and tried doing a global search for that first name in the year they were born (or quarter, if too many results), and then gone through the results line by line to see if a listing is similar to the eye that a search engine would not find? Why not post the name and birthdate info so list members can try to help you find the entry again?
