Hi Pat Chorlton Row was a township until 1838 when the area was renamed as Chorlton-on-Medlock. If you Google 'Chorlton Row' you will be able to read much more about it, find the boundaries, etc. Edward Turner BALE is well documented in a variety of places. Again, try Googling his name. You'll get lots of very interesting references. Other listers have searched for him in the past so if you do a search on the Rootsweb Manchester list using his name you'll find other possible contacts. Manchester Record Office has a large photographic collection and they have early photographs of the area (later than 1829 obviously but still worth a look). If you can get in to see them you can make an appointment (well, at least I did a few years back). Others may know of collections on the web of which I'm unaware. _http://www.gmcro.co.uk/Photography/index.htm_ (http://www.gmcro.co.uk/Photography/index.htm) There's so much information out there, too much to go into detail here, so I hope these references help.
