For anyone wanting daily detail, it's a good online substitute for scouring the newspapers on fiche. For instance,there is an extract from Queen Victoria's diary when she and Prince Albert visited Manchester in 1851 (Page 258) giving lots of interesting detail. I found an account of a big flood in the city in July 1872 (starts page 333), which makes one feel glad of modern flood defences and public services. Which reminds me, what was the cause of the water damage on the 1851 census? Was it a large flood, or a simple building flood? Sally in Yorkshire

    3. Ruth I find that the display is out of focus and the pages off centre so the left hand edge and characters are not visible.. I assume that this is the fault of the Uni. Terry Heath Cheltenham UK
