Hi Terry, I think you are probably right about those two streets being one and the same. In the 1895 Manchester directory it has Melville st Harpurhey -at Conway ave There is no listing for Staveley st but not every street is listed so it's not 100% certain that it didn't exist then. In the 1929 Manchester directory it has Staveley st - at Conway ave to 107 Upper Conran st This time no sign of Melville st ! Hello Kath, You must have the same "Kellys directories" I have :-)) I found the same as you. In the 1895 kellys it may be that Melville Street ran from Conway Ave as far as Anglesea Ave. That would make Melville Street a lot shorter than the full length of Staveley when it was completed. I thought perhaps the street started off as Melville then later became Staveley St. Just a guess. Thanks a lot for your help Kath.
