Manchester, I have a Birth certificate of a Ancestor born Birkenhead, Cheshire, 1902.which although, shows the father's first given name as being correct in accordance with a fair amount of intensive family research records, etc. the Child's father, chose to use the Child's unmarried mother's surname, (born, 1872) rather than that of his own of whom, he as the father, was born c1829. 22 years later, my Ancestor married at the age of 24, (his mother still unwed) the information entered on his marriage certificate shows his father's first name differs completely to that on his birth certificate. As I have a reliable source of information which may help to identity this 1902 father, of whom, was married in Salford, Lancashire,1876.who died in Birkenhead, 1905. I am wondering whether there is anyone who can please, tell me whether the Registry Office, would hold a consequent record, of a document which, would under the above circumstances contain a specimen of the father's signature, or mark of a cross, of authenticity that may hopefully, enable me to hold a candle to, that which should appear on his original 1876 marriage certificate. Kind regards to all, Ted (New Zealand)
