Hello List, How would I go about searching for a christening in a Catholic Church in Manchester ? Cheers Helen
Hi Helen, First of all, you need to decide which Church or Churches you want to look at. http://www.manchester.gov.uk/site/scripts/documents_info.php?categoryID=448&documentID=464 If you then scroll down the page, you can click on any area and a list of Churches appears. Make a record of the reference numbers of the correct microfilm. If you are able to visit Manchester Central Library yourself, it is then free to look at the microfilm. If you can't visit, I'm afraid you have to rely on some kind soul to do a look up for you - or pay a researcher. Someone on this site has recently been looking into this, and discovered that staff at Mcr Central will do one free look up, but only if you know the exact church and date of baptism/christening. http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/indexp.html Alternatively, the on-line Parish Clerks are fantastic, and it would be worth looking at the sites to see what they have. I have always found them to be exceptionally helpful whenever I needed to contact them.
