Hello All, First, I'd like to thank the person (sorry I forgot who it was) who posted the link to the London Gazette database. It's turned up a few very interesting items. Second, as a result of this, I'm hoping someone can look up something for me. Could some kind soul with Ancestry access tell me who or what is listed at 90 Great Ancoats street in 1901? Thank you, Daryl Howland
Hello Daryl: Using the free Historical Directory site at http://www.historicaldirectories.org, I was able to discover that number 90 was on the west side of Great Ancoats Street on the corner of Port Street. The occupant in 1903 was TIANIS, Carlo, a shopkeeper. Then going to the census in Ancestry, I was able to confirm that he was the occupant in 1901. Since Carlo's name was garbled in one or both of these, I had to use his next door neighbour Walter Fletcher BOYCOTT who was obligingly present for both the census and the directory. Carlo was a street organ hirer and boarding house keeper. Is he the one you want? Regards, Irene
