I have discovered the death for Elizabeth PRINCE on the GRO Indexes Jul Aug Sep Qtr 1849 Manchester Vol 20 page 938 above this entry is one for Eliza PRINCE also Vol 20 page 938 my question, is this likely to be the same person, is it unusual for the entry to be recorded twice? I wondered if she may have died in child birth and the child also deceased named Eliza, but Elizabeth had a daughter also named Elizabeth born 1845 who survived, if Elizabeth was also known as Eliza would this warrant a 2nd entry? I am in the process of approaching Manchester County Record office for the death certificate of Elizabeth but this could take some time and I wondered if I should apply for both certificates and hope the family will arrange for an extra Christmas present??? Your opinions would be greatly appreciated Sandra in Vic Aus
Sandra, it is most likely that Elizabeth died in childbirth. I have one ancestor whose death was in the same quarter as a suspected child. The district, vol number were the same and the page numbers were consecutive. I sent for the mother's certificate and it stated date of death October 27, cause of death as "childbed", so I did not have to send for the child's certificate. In my case it was confirmed by finding the child's birth date and baptism both Oct 25 in the church registers. The mother's death date was two days later and her daughter must have died shortly after.
