Recently I asked about 2 Death certificates both having the same GRO Index numbers and if they may have been for the same person?, I took the plunge and ordered the 2 certificates Eliza Prince & Elizabeth PRINCE both Manchester I can confirm they are 2 totally different people who had the unfortunate co incidence of both having died on the same day 12 Sept 1849 unfortunately neither are the Elizabeth I was looking for, grrrrrr, so if anybody on the list is looking for either of these deaths I am happy to pass on the information contained on the certificates Eliza was age 26 & Elizabeth age 75 Sandra Aus
Hi Sandra If there is no-one on the list who wants your certificates, google "BMD certificate exchange" and you will find several websites where you can post the details of your unwanted ones. I have no experience of this myself - maybe others, who have, can explain how easy (or not) and how successful (or not) the system is. Hi folks, > I took the plunge and ordered the 2 certificates Eliza Prince & > Elizabeth PRINCE both Manchester I can confirm they are 2 totally > different people who had the unfortunate co incidence of both > having died on the same day 12 Sept 1849 unfortunately neither are > the Elizabeth I was looking for For those who don't know, if you order certificates through the relevant register office, by snail mail with a letter specifying the correct parents or some other specific detail, asking that they return your cheque if it/they are incorrect, then you don't waste your money and only get what you wanted. It's more of an effort to do it this way, but at least you get the right stuff. I did this recently with three birth / death certificates at the Manchester Register office. I had three different people, the third of which had two alternative possibles. I specified in each case who the father or spouse should be. I got two back which were correct, plus a returned cheque. I then emailed them referring to the third person, quoting back to them the alternatives which were incorrect, asking if they could check another possible with the same name, same year. It took them a few days but they emailed back to say that was wrong too. They won't go into details with you because otherwise that would give too much away but at least you can do some eliminating. And if you are not sure about the correct register office, again you can email them and ask if it is the correct one for what you want. Or you can pick up the correct register office from http:// www.ukbmd.org.uk/ Surely it all beats taking a train, boat or plane, even if one has to wait a few days or a couple of weeks if you are far afield.
