3. Hi Vanda, Thank you for taking the time to try. If it is off help to anyone, the name off the person on the death cert. is Frank MOLLOY. I am assuming that his father is Martin Molloy and his mother was Catherine ARMSTRONG. Catherine seems to disappear from the family home in 1881 and by 1891 Martin is living with a Sarah as wife but does not marry her until 1893, by then he has had 2 children with Sarah, and he dies a few months after the marriage. Best wishes Gisela. ----- Original Message ----- From: <andrew-vanda@tiscali.co.uk> To: <eng-manchester@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 23, 2008 4:37 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-MAN] 1891 & 1902 lookup please > > Hi Gisela, > > I've had a go but I can't fathom out how to search for streets sorry. > If anyone knows how to do it using ancestry I will try again thanks - > Vanda > >>----Original Message---- >>From: rongis@bigpond.com >>Date: 23/07/2008 7:40 >>To: <lancsgen@rootsweb.com>, <eng-manchester@rootsweb.com> >>Subj: [ENG-MAN] 1891 & 1902 lookup please >> >>Hi List, >> >>Would it be possible for a lookup of the 1891 & 1901 census for the > address >>off 172 (or 142) Hamilton St., Rochdale Road, Manchester. >>I have a death certificate that states this as a previous address of > someone >>who died in 1897, and I am trying to find out if this was some sort > off >>institution or a usual residence. >>And if he may have family members there? >> >>The person dies aged 18 as an inmate of a Reformatory School in > Holme, >>Howden, County of York, but the above is given a previous address. >> >>Thanks for any replys >>Gisela >> >>

    3. Gisela: Have you tried using the Historical Directories site at http://www.historicaldirectories.org? There are name directories and street directories. You can either look up the name of your man or look up the address and find out who was living there at the time of the directory. In this way you can also pick up the names of likely neighbours who might still be around for the censuses. Then a search for the neighbours should get the address you want on the census. The address directories are in alphabetic order of street names. Regards, Irene

    3. Thankyou Irene for your usual pearls of wisdom (even though it wasn't meant for me personally). I have been on the site before, but didn't think about using it as a street index for householders - I assumed it was all trades. Does anyone know how the information was collected? I wonder if it was house to house enquiries and that is why some house numbers are missing - or even whole streets in some areas.
