Hello List, Since I was last on this list I have found out my grtgrandmother was raised in an orphanage. The only information she left behind was that she was 16 when she arrived in NZ, arrived in 1858 [cannot find her on shipping] and her father was a painter. Not much !!! I live in West Aust. and did not know my family in NZ till I started researching and found them. We both had the family story of being related to Scottish Royalty through the Radcliffes. Did any orphanage records survive ? Where would I find them ? In what areas were the orphanages ? TIA Helen
Some Orphanage records have survived, but not sure just how far back. Do you think your relative was in an Orphanage in the Manchester area?
