Dear List-Members, Short intro: I am German, doing my own family research with a Group of 80 in South-Eastern Europe (Niederschlesien/Lower Silesia) and have the following question (for a friend of mine who researches a person by the name of): Oswald KENDALL (born in Manchester) probably 1870-1890. His father was John KENDALL, his mother Agnes MURRAY (marriage date unknown) 1910 Oswald KENDALL married Kate Orton (place unknown). Oswald KENDALL may have spent 14 years as a youngster in the US. (I have not yet searched the Ellis Island Records) In May 1915 he joined the British Army. 1917 he was POW in Germany. In the 1930ies he lived in London. He wrote adventure books for boys (books bublished in the US): Captain Hawks: Master Mariner. A story of the sea, told by George Henry Grummet, mate of the schooner Effie Dean, London, Stanley Paul & Co., 1912. Captain Protheroe's fortune;a story of the sea as told to the author by George Henry Grummet, mate of the Schooner Effie Dean, Chicago, A.C. McClurg, 1913. The romance of the Martin Connor, Boston, New York, Houghton Mifflin Company, 1916, before The Youth Companion The Stormy Petrel. A novel, Boston, New York, Houghton Mifflin Company, 1925. The Missing Island. A novel. Boston, New York, Houghton Mifflin Company, 1926. Simmonds of the Schooner “Lucy Anne”. A novel. London, New York, T. Nelson, 1926. The voyage of the Martin Connor, Boston, New York, Houghton Mifflin Company, 1931 (entspricht The romance ... von 1916) May I ask you whether anybody has information, how I could obtain more biographic data about Oswald KENDALL ? Enzyclopedias (British writers) did not yield anything and the web (surface) has been searched. Sincerely Hanno V. J. Kolbe
Hello, >From the site www.freebmd.org.uk the marriage of Oswald Kendall and Kate Orton was registered in Paddington in December quarter of 1919 ref vol 1a page 230 On the site there are instructions for purchasing the certificate. I did not find an Oswald Kendall with parents John and Agnes on the 1891 or 1901 census returns, but on the 1881 census the family including an older brother John M Kendall aged 4 are living in Ashley Cheshire. All were born in Manchester On the site www.lancashirebmd.org.uk there is a birth registration for an Oswald Kendall in Chorlton-on-Medlock ( Manchester area) in 1880.This site also provides info on purchasing the certificate. Also on the Lancashirebmd site is the marriage of John Kendall to Agnes A Murray in 1876 Hope this helps Gilly ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dr. Hanno V.J.
