Hi Pam, Thank you so much for the information you have sent me. I have been working through my elderly mother's bits and pieces and I believe there could have been another William born earlier and past away, but I don't know how or when. To date I can't find any else to indicate that there could have been another Emily. You have given me so much information to work with and maybe I can link some of it to something in my mother's collection. I will keep looking and maybe I will come across a name or piece of paper which may shed some more light on the mystery. Thanks again for your help - I really appreciate it. He was born on 3 May 1876 and christened on 11 June 1876 at St Michaels, Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, parents Edward Williams and Hannah. I couldn't find Emily there, unfortunately. Working backwards: 1881 census: 13 Victoria Street, Prestwich, Lancashire Edward Williams, 42 born about 1839, in Manchester, Lancashire, General Labourer Hannah, wife, 38 born about 1843, Overton, Cheshire George H. Son, 21 born about 1860, in Manchester, Lancashire, Silk Warehouseman (Dlr) - which would make Hannah 17 if her birth date is correct Edward P. Son, 17, born about 1864, in Manchester, Lancashire, Body Maker Perambulators William, son, 7, born about 1874, in Manchester, Lancashire, scholar - Big age gap between him and George Emily, daughter, 4, born about 1877, Manchester, Lancashire 1871 Census 19 Brunswick Street, Manchester Hannah Williams, head, married, 34, born 1837 in Overton, Cheshire, Plain sewer George Henry, son, 11, born 1860 in Manchester, Lancashire Edward Percival, son, 8, born 1863 in Manchester, Lancashire I can't find husband Edward 1861 Census 45 Regent Road, Salford Edward Williams, 29, born about 1832, in Manchester, Lancashire, Warehouseman Hannah, wife, 24, born about 1837, in Overton, Cheshire George Henry, son, 1, born about 1860, in Manchester, Lancashire 1851 Census Heaton Mersey Back Park Row, Heaton Norris, Cheshire - looks a possibility Elizabeth Williams, head, widow, 76, born about 1775, in Mottram St. Andrew, Cheshire Mary Williams, daughter, unmarried, 46, born about 1805, in Heaton Norris, Lancashire, Drawing Room Tenter Cotton Edward Williams, nephew, unmarried, 19, born about 1832, in Manchester, Lancashire, Power Loom Weaver Cotton Ester Williams, granddaughter, 3, born about 1848, in Heaton Mersey, Lancashire I haven't had any success with 1841, I'm afraid, but I hope the above Helps. Given the big age gap between Edward Percival and William, plus Edward senior's absence in 1871, it looks as though he may have been Away for an extended period - maybe abroad? It's only in 1881 that Edward and Hannah reduce their ages, maybe they needed to be younger to Get jobs, or to travel to Australia? It's certainly mysterious! Maybe Hannah's notes were to help her keep the revised ages straight in her Mind ...... Best wishes and good luck, Pam. ~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~ PLEASE and THANK YOU -- Don't cost a thing and mean so much. ~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
