I have received the marriage certificate for George WALKER to Hannah HALLOWS which took place in Manchester Cathedral on 25th August 1841. You may remember my posts regarding Hannah's surname being HALLOWS or HOLLIS or ALLISS etc. The witness names mean nothing to me, so I am wondering if anyone on the List has a marriage cert from Cathedral for around this time which may have the same names as witnesses, therefore indicating they were "church" witnesses, rather than friends or relatives of the couple. The witness names are Mary NUTTALL and the other is John LASER or HASER - I'm not sure of the first letter in the surname. Any help much appreciated. Chris, Sydney Australia

Hi Chris, John HASER witnessed the previous marriage - looks like HASLU or HASLEE (HAS... being definite) but the handwriting looks the same in both entries - he clearly had trouble writing his name. Mary NUTTALL does not appear elsewhere that day, nor a day either side.
