Hi All, Doing some research on a family called MILLS or MILNE. Though known in the the late 19th and early 20th century as Arthur Owen VAUGHAN (Owen Rhoscomyl) and claimed he was Welsh, Arthur's real name was Robert Scourfield (Schofield) MILLS or MILNE. He is found in military records but quite late in life. He was born in the Southport area in 1863 and was the son of Robert MILLS or MILNE (killed in an accident in 1863) and Jane Ann SCOURFIELD or SCHOFIELD. Jane's mother was Ann GILL, and had been SCHOFIELD or SCOURFIELD but maiden name would seem to be JONES. Ann would seem to have been from Tremeirchion in Flintshire, North Wales. I am trying to find her on census reports before 1861 - by then she is Ann GILL, widow and 66 years old. She appears in 1871 living with the ETCHELLS. Jane MILLS (MILNE) remarried to a Luke ETCHELL and died in 1869 leaving Luke to take care of three children, Robert and Ada from her first marriage and son Philip. With the family was Ann GILL. Seemingly Ann JONES married Joseph SCHOFIELD (SCOURFIELD) in 1833 and an "Ann SCHOFIELD or JONES" married a John GILL in April 1841, both in Manchester.
