Hello Listers, I should like to thank everyone who responded to my email about Thomas Slater, both on- and off-line. Some of you said to send for a copy of his Marriage certificate. Another relative had already done this, and it arrived today. Thomas's father's occupation is given as : Gentleman. In most records Thomas's birthplace is given as Manchester, but in the 1851 census it is given as: Lisbon, Portugal. Can anyone suggest why his parents might have been in Lisbon in 1826, please?
