    1. [ENG-MAN] Pollitts in Manchester

    3. Can sks help break down a brick wall regarding my Pollitt relly. His name was James Pollitt born about 1805 in Dublin, Ireland. In 1826 James joined the 1st rifle Corp in Manchester. Up until that time I had assumed James and his family were living in Ireland and working as a weaver. I now think the family were living in Manchester which is why James signed up there. I have no idea about James' parents, siblings or anything about him prior to him joining up in 1826.. Although James signed up for indefinite service, he became blind after 2 years and was discharged with a pension. Later censuses show him as a 'Chelsea Pensioner'. I have his discharge papers but they tell me he was born in Dublin, Ireland and that is it. I know there was a huge network of Pollits in Manchester about this time, but so far I have not been able to connect any of mine to them. Does anyone recognise this man. If so, I would dearly love to hear from you. Regards Syl - UK
