Hi again, As far as 'correct' spellings are concerned don't forget that people might well be simply saying their name for someone else to write down so lots of variation can creep in none of which is strictly 'correct'. For example I have a Mary Ann Copeland spelt that way on her marriage cert but Coblant on her daughter's birth cert. She was of Irish-Liverpool descent so presumably people interpreted her accent/pronunciation in different ways.
