Both Ashley Lane and New Blackley Street are on the West side of St Michaels church. West of Ancoats and east of Strangeways . Hi Mike, Dianne and All, Thank you for your replies. I had tried to read the description on the census with difficulty. Dianne has done better. Perhaps I am being dim but I am still struggling. Blackley New Road, St. Michael's C of E church and Ashley Lane seem too far north and too far away from each other to be the right place. I have found Strangeways (the prison presumably) and Ancoats south-east of it. There is a large area in-between. In it I can't find an Ashley Lane or New Blackley Street or St Michaels church (using Google maps). So presumably they no longer exist but where were they? Sorry for being dim but if you could point out the modern location, or ,even better, a map with them still on, I would be grateful.
