    3. My father has been researching the HOLINGER side of our family for many years. John HOLINGER b 1826 Switzerland - d 1 April 1883 in Chorlton John's first wife Jane TOWNSEND (b abt 1824-d 1857 in Chorlton) John's mother Anna HOLINGER (b abt 1801 Switzerland - d 1879 Chorlton) While we have many details about John HOLINGER's family by his 2 marriages both in Manchester, Australia and Switzerland, we have never been able to establish where John HOLINGER, Jane TOWNSEND (HOLINGER) or Anna HOLINGER are buried. The 1881 Census has John HOLINGER living at Willow Bank Withington Re, Dis. Chorlton Sub reg district Didsbury, while the FreeBMD lists death in 1883 as being registered in Chorlton any clues as to where we next can look? thank you Stephen

    3. Hi Stephen There is an extensive list of churches in the Didsbury area from the excellent Genuki website: http://www.genuki.org.uk/cgi-bin/churches?CCC=LAN,GR=SJ846903 One way to narrow down the possibilites is to order the death certificate and see if a residence is quoted so you could start with the nearest churches and work outwards. It may also help if you know what religion he followed - was he Catholic, Welseyan, Methodist, Baptist etc etc.? Do you know which church was used for marriages/baptisms and were they consistent with their use of it? I checked with the OPC website and currently they have registers transcribed for St James marriages, but it's worth checking the updates I send round as and when the databases are updated. I'm not affiliated to the OPC project in any way, just a big admirer of the hard work they do, so I don't have any information as to what future transcriptions are down for release, sadly.
