Hi All, I am looking for descendants of Matthew HALE and have found his family in 1861 living in Manchester. The Ancestry transcription is Matthew Hale 45 Mary Hale 36 Charles Hale 7 William Henry Hale 14 Fanny Hale 12 Annie Martha Hale 11 Elizabeth Hale 1 Piece 2951 Folio 17 Page 30 I am a bit suspicious about the ages of Charles and William Henry but I think WH is 4 not 14 - the image is a bit iffy and FreeBMD has a birth to match Charles aged 7 but for WH there are 2 possible births. So I looked for Charles in later censuses and found a puzzle in 1871. The Ancestry transcription is (if I have the right Charles) Charles Hale 18 James Ellis 23 James Williamson 31 Isabella Shields 26 Jane Singleton 21 Mary Singleton 18 Fanny Singleton 17 William Harry Singleton 10 Piece: 4045; Folio: 133; Page: 2 On looking at the image it looks like 2 households but without the end of household marker between them. Charles is a publican as his father was so that seems likely. The following 3 are servants. Jane SINGLETON is marked as Daughter as are the next 2 and William Henry as a son. So if they are 2 households why no head in the second one and the names are coincidental, 2 Fanny's and a William Henry and a William Harry. Certainly there is no one there old enough to be the parent of a 21 year old. I think they must be 2 separate households. Do others agree? Christine
