FindmyPast transcribe it as ‘…’ Very helpful that! I asked them whether someone would try again to transcribe it. They replied with ‘”’. Even more helpful! It looks like ‘Besempor’ to me but my world atlas doesn’t list such a name and Google leads me a merry dance. But no real answer. Charlotte b. 1830, her brother Arthur b. 1834 and her mother Charlotte QUEEN b.1801 were born in the East Indies. Charlotte QUEEN is listed in 1851 as a widow and an annuitant. They had two servants, a cook and a housemaid. I have checked military records but can’t find the name QUEEN connected with the East Indies. Does anyone have experience of researching the East India Co. records? A2A hasn’t revealed anything yet. I don’t have CQ’ s husband’s name which doesn’t help either. I’m putting this request on 3 Rootsweb lists. Ever hopeful and will be grateful for any help offered.
