    3. Hello Patricia, remember the street name was recorded as being in Deansgate not Oldham. Most times a record of a service was scribbled down on a piece of paper, then a few days later handed to another person to place it in the official records. Some of this handwriting would not have been to clear thus it was written as it looked. In your case there is no doubt it was written as Fredge street. But the general feeling is this should have been Bridge street. Its easy to see with swirls in the hand writing that this could be read wrong. I have a 4xGreat grandmother who had her children baptised in St Ann's church in Deansgate. In one service record she was recorded as PHEBY but her name was actually MARY. It was written as MARY for five of her other children. I have seen a copy of the record and its written as PHEBY. Off the west side of Deansgate was St Mary's church (St Mary's Street). I think this was a Catholic church, it was in existence in 1844. It was about two streets to the north of Bridge street and ran parallel to Bridge street. I have sent you a section of a map showing these places. regards Mike Morris Toronto Canada ----- Original Message ---- > From: patricia white <[email protected]> > To: [email protected]; [email protected] > Sent: Mon, January 17, 2011 2:51:33 PM > > Previously asked about Fredge Street, Deansgate, Manchester, but even with a >lot of help never found what it was, is there a Fordge Street in Manchester? ><snip>
