Hi Julie, I had that once yesterday, I can't remember what I was trying to access. First I got a badly painted page saying it couldn't download something (I think), I used the back button, tried again and got the Oops message, used the back button and tried again and it worked. Sorry that doesn't help you much. When you actually click on the image I get a "Oops! There's a problempage" is anyone else having this problem? I phoned on Wednesday and she was putting in a "report" though nothing has happened. I am getting more and more frustrated with them. Thanks for your help Julie x
Hi since Wednesday I have been having problems accessing the Lancashire, Manchester Parish records especially the Cathedral. When you actually click on the image I get a "Oops! Christine > Thanks, Christine. From my copy of JAMES CARRINGTON's marriage certificate I got his father's name of Isaac. Isaac is a fairly unusual first name, so I am convinced that the christening record you found is the correct one. I read the record as CARRINGTON, not CANNINGTON, as I was taught an old-fashioned way of 'joined-up' writing and it looked very much like what is in the records! It's really great to get another piece of the jigsaw into place, the help is much appreciated. I hadn't thought of that particular mis-spelling of the name! Glynis
Hi Glynis, There are some trees on Ancestry about James. One has his death as Oct-Dec 1887. Another as 1907 but that one does not seem to match his birth year. There is a christening of James on FamilySearch at Manchester Cathedral 5 Mar 1826, son of Isaac and Hannah. Is that where you got his father's name from as I cannot find anything else linking Isaac to James. I have found the Ancestry image for that but Ancestry indexes it as CANNINGTON, which it certainly looks like but not a surname I have come across. I will send that to you off list. Hello all Over on LancsGen we've been discussing best research advice. Lots of folks have contributed and you can read their great advice in LancsGen's archives at <http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/LANCSGEN/2013-05>. Here are some tips to help you find missing death records from the "Who Do You Think You Are" magazine: "~ Search the family trees on subscription sites ... to see if anyone has already found the death record you are looking for. "~ Try using DeceasedOnline – especially if you are looking for a common name and there are too many candidates in the General Register Office indexes. Here the names often appear in full, including identifiable middle names. "~ Keep an open mind and use wildcards when searching. Your ancestor’s name may have been mistranscribed or misrecorded. "~ Check you are searching under the right name. If you are looking for a woman, could she have remarried before she died? "~ Extend your search. Could your quarry have died in Scotland or Ireland (the GRO indexes only cover England and Wales). For Scottish BMD indexes try ScotlandsPeople, and Irish indexes are accessible on Ancestry and FamilySearch.org. Or could they have died even further afield?" Do you have some great research tips? Please share them with the list! Kind regards, Lynne

Hello, New to British records. I have done most of my research in Ireland and Scotland so I need a bit of help here. I have a Michael Thomas McDonnell born around 1869 and died in Manchester in 1943. He fits the profile for my missing Michael, brother of my great grandfather. Michael left Ireland late 1890's early 1900's and married in Scotland and had 2 sons, Hugh in 1908 and Thomas in 1910. Thomas died in an accident in 1915 and that is the last that I can find any records of Michael in Scotland. Ancestry kept popping up with this name in Lancashire, so I sent for a death certificate. It lists a son, Thomas as informant. It is not unlikely that Michael and wife had another child and named him Thomas. Address listed is 15 Tripping street, Openshaw, Manchester. Not sure what records might be available in that time frame, or if this is even my Michael. That is what I want to verify. No place of birth or parents' names listed. His parents were Bessie Maguire and Hugh McDonnell of Fermanagh, NI. Janet
