    3. Hi Heather, Thank you. I have been trying to look at the 1851c on Ancestry but the pages won't open up. I have sent a msg to them. Her name is Elizabeth Ellen Radcliffe. That she was raised in an orphanage is by word of mouth. But official records say she was born in Manchester, arrived at age 16 in 1858. She is not on shipping records so we think she may have come out as a nurse maid and not put on the shipping list. ----- Original Message ----- From: "The Quineys" <pquiney@post.com> To: <eng-manchester@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 10:28 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-MAN] ORPHANAGE - RADCLIFFE > Hi Helen > > Do you have the given name of your Gt Grandmother? > > Where did you find the limited info that you have? 1. [ENG-MAN] POLLARD in Ardwick and Manchester, PODMORE, MOORES, WELSH, GORMAN in Man.
    2. Ron Stallard
    3. Hi, I just located this entry in the Parish Online Parish Clerk Project and thank you very much to those who made this lovely online gift possible! I am hoping to locate further info. about this family and descendants of the POLLARDS, who appear to have been in Man. for a long time. William POLLARD died in Man. in 1899. Here’s his baptism entry: Baptisms: 7 Jun 1837 Collegiate, Manchester, Lancashire, England William Pollard - Son of Henry Pollard & Mary Ann Born: 21 Mar 1837 Abode: Ardwick Occupation: Salesman Baptised by: Henry Fielding Vicar Register: Baptisms 1837, Page 399, Entry 3185 Source: FHL 1545611 I found the family in the 1841 census and found William in the remaining ones including 1891. He married Catherine (Kate) WELSH in 1859 in London and they had one child, Clara Emily Pollard, born 1865 in Hoxton, London. William’s second wife was Mary PODMORE of Man., dau. of Enoch P. of Cheshire and Ellen GORMAN of Man. The marriage took place in Man. in 1885 and their daughter, Nellie was born in Man. in 1888. Clara Emily Pollard married Robert MOORES in Man. in 1888. Any assistance or advice regarding the above persons would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 2. Hi Shiela I am looking for info on a Robert Whitehead who was christened on 20 Dec 1795 in Dob Lane and Newton Chapel, Failsworth. On checking the batch numbers for that entry, I find there is no entry for any other siblings. I was wondering if anything could be found in the records of All Saints Newton Heath. This Robert was the son of John, and is reputed to be married in Manchester Cathedral in 1819 to Sarah Mather. All their children were baptised in All Saints and that is why I thought I might find Roberts and his family in All Saints. Can you help at all? Dorothy

    3. Dear Listers, A few small announcements, in case you haven't heard. Apologies if you get multiple copies of this message. - Subscribing to RootsWeb may now involve another step. As a further deterrent to spam, RootsWeb have added another step to the subscription process. Depending upon each list administrator's preferences, every subscription request is either reviewed and approved by the list administrator or a subscription confirmation is sent to the would-be subscriber and the instructions contained in that confirmation message must be followed in order for the subscription to be completed. - "RootsWeb Review", which recently switched from plain text to HTML, will be sent out monthly, rather than weekly (see http://blogs.rootsweb.ancestry.com/newsroom/). If you're not already subscribed to this free newsletter, go to http://newsletters.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ to enter your e-mail address. You can also use that link if you prefer to receive the newsletter in plain text rather than HTML (or vice versa) or would like to subscribe to the free "Ancestry Weekly Journal". - RootsWeb pages are now hosted on Ancestry's servers, so you may see a slight different in the way some URLs appear, but any bookmarked RootsWeb pages should work as usual. We have been told that RootsWeb will continue to be free. See <http://bigfile.rootsweb.ancestry.com/newsroom/?p=111> and <http://bigfile.rootsweb.ancestry.com/newsroom/?p=112> for more information. On a much more personal and very sad note, my father passed away 19 March. Many thanks to you who had expressed your wishes for his recovery. For the past four months I've been very involved caring for my father, which is why you haven't seen many posts from me or notices of LancsBMD updates. I'm gradually getting back to normal (whatever that is!) and will be sending you BMD updates and event info more often. On a positive note, I finally have high-speed Internet access. This necessitated a change in e-mail addresses. If you have my old addresses, lklein@mindspring.com or rwlist.admin@earthlink.net, in your address book, please replace them with rwlist.admin@verizon.net or rwlist.admin@gmail.com. 3. I'm seeking the family of Mary Ann COTTRELL who married first William BURNETT, then John WILKINSON Sr and either married or had a common-law relationship with William HAMER before returning to her second husband who had apparently been thought dead. In 1841 Mary Ann was living at Top of Brighton St., Manchester and her occupation was given as a "Mangler". In 1851 she was at 13 Back Foundry St., Manchester, a servant. I believe that some of her children were involved in the textile manufacturing trade as some lived briefly in the Bollington, Cheshire and Liverpool areas and their occupations appear to be textile related. 3. Hi Helen Do you have the given name of your Gt Grandmother? Where did you find the limited info that you have? How concrete/reliable is it? Or just word of mouth? There would be orphanages all over the country - in most major towns. Do you know that she came from Manchester? Or just Lancashire? Or just "north England, possibly Scotland"?! I'd be happy to look on the 1851 census but need a little more info, if you have it. 3. Dear Dorothy and Irene, For yourselves and others who may be interested in the All Saints Parish Registers of Newton Heath, I have the bound volumes # 158 and 159 published by the Lancashire Parish Register Society. You can find out more about other published registers at <http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/lprs/> Volume 158 covers: Baptisms 1655-1796 Marriages 1682-1754 Burials 1672-1796 Volume 159 covers baptisms and burials for 1979-1837. Having said that, there are very few marriages in volume 158 and none in vol. 159 as they seemed to have been mostly performed in Manchester or Prestwich during that time frame. I have reviewed the filmed registers as well, but the earlier years are of very poor quality and difficult to read, so there may be some missing or very illegible records. 3. Jean found the death record and I have received the certificate. It is my Emma. She was living at 36 Cavendish Road, Urmston at the time of the 1891 census and at the time of her death in 1893. What resources exist for me to find out where she was buried? Here is everything I know about places Emma and her family lived: 1851 - Thomas Hardy and his wife Ann (Emma's parents), and their young son John, living with Thomas's parents at 16 Newton's Buildings, St. Andrew's Parish, Manchester 1861 - Emma Hardy, living with her parents Thomas and Ann at 24 Martin Street, Manchester - St. Andrew's parish 1871 - Emma Hardy, living with her parents Thomas and Ann at 6 Cowell's Building, Ardwick, St. Silas parish 1876 - John Taylor (age 17) and Emma Hardy (age 21) marry at Manchester, Ancoats, St. Andrew. This church, on Travis Street, closed 1958. On the marriage certificate, he lists his age as 20. 1881 Census - John Taylor, Emma(1), kids lived at #9 Station Street, Manchester 1891 Census - John Taylor, Emma(1), kids living at 36 Cavendish Road in Urmston, Lancashire. The whole family listed their birthplace as Manchester, Lancashire. 1893 - Emma dies while living at 36 Cavendish Road, Urmston.
