    3. Hi Andrew and Jean, Thank you to both of you.Andrew l am curious as to where your Verdon family are.l have two brothers, one incumbent as St Annes' in Tottington,Edward, and his brother is William, incumbent at Holy Trinity,Salford. They are both born in Dublin. There is also another brother , Thomas K.De Verdon, who was an Independant Minister in Surrey then London.Send me an email privately if you like if your Verdons are not in Manchester.l did have those IGI records and R.E.Verdon whom you found in fleetwood is son of Edward Verdon above, therefore cousin of Henry Walter Verdon whom l am searching for in 51 and 61.l do have quite a bit of information re Verdons so contact me. Jean, thanks for that area descrption.Funny isnt it,seems that Manchester Grammar is also very near where my husbands' Pendlebury family lived.l also checked and feel that Henry Erlam may just be Henry Verdon.Otherwise l should be able to find him,Pauline.

    3. Pauline Looked for a birth for a Hanry Irlam only one that I could find was a William Henry Iralm 1851 born Chorlton district so it looks as though there was no birth for a Henry. The other thing whether this helps or not. Manchester Grammar Scholl was situated between Manchester Cathedral then the Collegaite Church and the church's domestic quarters, subsequently Chethams School of Music. Jean Pauline Pendlebury <ppendlebury@iinet.net.au> wrote: Thanks Jean.l also followed up on that and that's part of the reason l think that it may be my Henry Walter Verdon.Henry can be found on all later census as born 1850 at Salford. He was the son of William Verdon who was the Curate at Holy Trinity,Salford. He had died and his mother Sophia, had remarried, her surname now being Verdon-Roe.She can be found at Eccles. 2. Hi Pauline I followed up your posting to see if there was any link to the Verdons in my tree. I didn't find any, but I found a couple of things that may be of help. Like you, I couldn't find Henry on the 1861 Census. But I found his brother Richard Edward. On the IGI, William & Sophia have several children:- WM EVERARD VERDON Birth: 04 JUL 1844 Christening: 08 AUG 1844 Holy Trinity,Salford, , Lancashire, England RICHD EDWD VERDON Birth: 12 OCT 1845 Christening: 15 MAR 1846 Holy Trinity,Salford, , Lancashire, England ANNA SOPHIA VERDON Birth: 28 MAY 1847 Christening: 02 JUL 1847 Holy Trinity,Salford, , Lancashire, England HENRY WALTER VERDON Birth: 20 APR 1849 Christening: 18 MAY 1849 Holy Trinity,Salford, , Lancashire, England CHAS GEO VERDON Birth: 22 APR 1851 Holy Trinity,Salford, , Lancashire, England In 1861, there is an R E Verdon, b. Hi Helen I've had a look for you but cannot see anything :-( There are 3 x Ellen RADCLIFFEs born in Lancashire between 1837 and 1847 (+/-5 from 1842 - 1858-16) and 11 x Eli* RADCLIFFEs born in Lancashire (same time frame). If you can access the list but not the images, let me know which look most promising and I will access them for you. I would look at them all now but I'm not sure what I'm looking for as most are "daughters" (ie living with parents). Sorry I couldn't wave a magic wand for you ;-) Heather PS Oh, just a thought, she might be on the water-damaged images of 1851. In which case you need someone with the CDs of the transcriptions. Picked up this message from the Cheshire site; I have a similar problem with my Grandfather (Herbert Harold Horton, 1888-1949) who left my Grandmother Emily.Family lore suggests that she went for a formal seperation when he wouldn't sign papers for my father to go to seconarday school, assumed around aged 11, in 1925. His death certificate was witnessed by "R.B Horton widow of the deceased" He died at5, Oxford Place, Manchester.(where he died in 1959) I been given his dates at that address in 1942,1944,1945 and 1947, thanks to the Manchester Group No trace of the wedding certificate, or children - my half-cousins Regards, Graeme -----Original Message----- From: cheshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cheshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Geoff Mellor Sent: 02 May 2008 17:27 To: cheshire@rootsweb.com Subject: [CHS] Tracing Fathers of Illegitimate Children Hello list, I have recently obtained a marriage certificate, thanks to Elaine for advice, for my gggrandparents, William Mellor and Ann Staton (named as Stayton on the cert) which names her father as Noa Davenport. Ann Staton was born in Congleton in 1830 and christened by her mother Sophia Staton as illegitimate. I have followed up on this and there does appear to have been a Noah Davenport born in Astbury in 1807 which would put him in the right place and age to have possibly been her father. Two questions Is there another way that I can pursue this aside from the Parish records ? Is anyone else researching the Davenports of Congleton who may have other info which could help me ?
