    3. Sorry Lesley. From what little info she left, she was born in 1842 and arrived in NZ in 1858. Can't find any shipping for her, may have been a nanny. 2. Hi Lilie I was wondering if you have an Eva Nuttall in your family? My uncle Albert Whitehead married Eva in the early 1900s in Newton Heath. He was a widower with two young children. Dorothy

    3. Hi Lilie, ON the 1901 census James E Nuttall is a crumpet baker working for himself. on the site www.lancashirebmd.org the marriage of James and Sarah is listed as taking place in Chorlton-on-Medlock,If you obtain this cert it will give you the names of their respective fathers, helping you to find their families on earlier census returns. 1. [ENG-MAN] WW1 site update
    2. Hello everyone, I've added C, D and E surnames to the site now (from the Roll of warrant officers, non-commissioned officers and men in the 2/6th Battalion of the Liverpool Rifles "The Kings") and I've added 4 photographs. Please don't forget to let me know if you recognise a relative in the photos so that I can add their name to the image! The site is very basic (I'm new to the whole web building thing) so please let me know if you spot any errors or have any troubles with it, I'd love to hear from anyone who might have anything to add to the site (on the 2/6th Battalion) Thank you, Tamara (Australia). 1. [ENG-MAN] All Saints Parish Registers of Newton Heath, volume 159, baptisms and burials for 1797-1837. 'Re: ALL SAINTS PARISH REGISTERS'
    2. Winifred Johns
    3. Dear Sheila, Please would you check whether the burials of the following might be mentioned in the Newton Heath parish register, vol.159: 1. Richard WADKIN / WATKIN, (between 1805 and 1811). (Richard married 10 May 1803 at the Collegiate Church of St Dennis and St George, Manchester. His then occupation was 'cotton spinning' and his last child was baptised 29 Sep 1805. His widow, nee Betty HOYLE, as Elizabeth HOYLE married a 2nd time on 4 May 1812 to Richard ROBERTS at the same church.) 2. Sarah WATKIN (between 1804-1811). (Sarah WATKIN, daughter or Richard and Elizabeth WATKIN, was baptised on 29 April 1804 at the above church, and died before the birth on 3 June 1813, of Richard and Elizabeth Roberts' 1st child, who was named 'Sarah' in her memory.) 3. Mrs. Richard Roberts, formerly Mrs. Richard Watkin, nee Elizabeth Hoyle (between 24 Dec 1824 and 29 Sep 1825). (Richard and Elizabeth Roberts' last child, Jemima Roberts, was born on 24 Dec 1824 and baptised on 6 Mar 1825. On 29 Sep 1875, which was the 70th birthday of her son, James Watkin - by her 1st marriage - he wrote of his mother's death '50 years earlier'. ) Thanking you in anticipation Winifred Johns Message: 6 Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2008 11:44:17 -0700 (PDT) From: Sheila Johnston <sjohnston17@yahoo.ca> Subject: Re: [ENG-MAN] ALL SAINTS PARISH REGISTERS To: eng-manchester@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <929559.84152.qm@web50305.mail.re2.yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Dear Dorothy and Irene, For yourselves and others who may be interested in the All Saints Parish Registers of Newton Heath, I have the bound volumes # 158 and 159 published by the Lancashire Parish Register Society. You can find out more about other published registers at <http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/lprs/> Volume 158 covers: Baptisms 1655-1796 Marriages 1682-1754 Burials 1672-1796 Volume 159 covers baptisms and burials for 1979-1837. Having said that, there are very few marriages in volume 158 and none in vol. 159 as they seemed to have been mostly performed in Manchester or Prestwich during that time frame. I have reviewed the filmed registers as well, but the earlier years are of very poor quality and difficult to read, so there may be some missing or very illegible records. Take care,

    3. I am asking for people that have the various CDs to please look them up for my grtgrandmother, she is not on the Ancestry.com censuses. I don't know where in Manchester she lived. Can't buy all CDs. Her name is Elizabeth Ellen RADCLIFFE [could be any spelling] also only Elizabeth may have been used. Only one other clue - her father was a painter. She named her children, James Alfred, Elizabeth Ellen, Frances Agnes, Joseph Henry, Francis Keil, Richard, Elizabeth Anna, Mary [Mabel], Ethel Alice. Can't think of what else to do TIA Helen

    3. Thank you Patricia. I have taken the address of the Records Office. They should know what orphanages were operating back in the 1850s. If I could find out what part of Manchester she lived in it might help. As she doesn't seem to be on the Ancestry.com censuses I need the CDs. Buying all 10 is not an option. I will ask if people can do lookups for me. Can't think of what else to do. Thanks again. 1. Re: [ENG-MAN] ILLEGITMATE AND NATURAL CHILDREN
    2. Bob Thornley
    3. Hi Ellen, The term 'natural child' is either used to differentiate between adopted and 'natural' children, or as a euphemism for 'illegitimate'. The context in this case suggests the latter interpretation. A euphemism tends to mean whatever the euphemist wants it to mean, but one of the accepted differentiations between 'illegitimate' and 'natural child', where instances of both occur as in this case, is that the 'natural child' has been acknowledged by the supposed father. In all of the above I'm assuming that these children were born in Manchester, otherwise Lynne will be along questioning my ancestry <g> Regards, Bob -----Original Message----- From: Ellen Oakley Hello List On a Parish Record that I have been looking at it says for one of my families for one of the children Illegitimate and for another one it says Natural Child. Does this mean the Illegitimate one was born before wedlock and the Natural Child born after wedlock, or is there another reason. Thanks Ellen

    3. It's always worth looking at list archives to see if a solution to your problem has been mentioned before. I've repeatedly posted that the Unfilmed Census records done by Manchester & Lancs FHS are available on Family History Online see - http://www.familyhistoryonline.net Searching is free and there's a nominal fee to see the transcribed entries - this isn't an image since the originals are in such poor condition. There are 7 variants of Elizabeth Radcliffe in the Unfilmed for Lancashire in 1851 some with several individuals. The fee per entry is 10p. I believe that there is a further charge to see the rest of the family but still it's quite inexpensive compared with other pay-per-view sites. I hope one of them is yours. Good Luck, Irene

    1. [ENG-MAN] New WW1 Liverpool Kings site
    2. Hello everyone, >From time to time I used to post to the Lancs lists and offer to do look ups for soldiers names from a Battalion book I have (my Great Grandfathers) on the 2/6th Liverpool Rifles (WW1). I decided that it might be a good idea to create a website (a very basic one!) where I can post all of the soldiers names and some more information from the book for anyone to access. It's still very much a work in progress (I only started it today!) but I have stored the A surnames and the B surnames so far. I will continue to try to do the rest as quickly as possible and will try to let the lists know of updates. If anyone has anything to contribute on this particular battalion I would love to add as much as possible to the website! Thank you, Tamara - Australia.
