    2. Pauline It's possible your ancestor's census record was in that part of the census which was damaged. Some of my ancestors are mising off the 1851 census for the same reason. Try getting in touch with Lancehster adn Lancashire Family History Society to see whether Peel Street had been inclused in the restoration of the damaged records. Dorothy

    3. Thank you Lesley. I accessed the image then found a chr on the IGI, then marriage, then 1861c. The family are still all together. No reason for her to be in an orphanage. I was told she was raised in an orphanage. Does anyone know if there are any orphanages on the 1851c ? Thanks again. 2. Hi Sheila I might have found another clue re my Robert Whitehead. Someone on genesreunited has sent me information about a John Whitehead bn c1768 who might have had a brother Daniel bn c1767 inthe Failsworth area. Acccording to this gentleman, Daniel married Mary Whittaker in 1792 in Manchester Cathedral, and John married Sarah Garrett or Garnet. This John had a son Robert bn 1795. Coincidence or what?

    3. Hi Helen, I checked the unfilmed 1851 census on www.familyhistoryonline.net For 40 pence (around $1 AUD) I got 4 hits for Elizabeth Radcliffe. I didn't have enough credit to check the actual returns in full (1 pound each - about $2.50 AUD) but the excerpts I saw follow: First 3 are Radcliffe: One was 66 lodging house keeper living in Pendleton (clearly not yours). One was a 22 year old unmarried servant (general servant) living at 13 Melbourne St Chorlton Manchester, born at Lymm Cheshire. The third was closer to the age of your Elizabeth. 30 Robert St Ardwick Manchester Un 16 year old living with parent (no occupation noted ) born Manchester Lancahire . The closest I could find though was an Elizabeth RATCLIFFE aged 7 living at 8 Black Queen St Deansgate Manchester, born Blackburn Lancashire, relationship to head of household was niece. Again to view the actual entry (from familyhistoryonline) is 1 pound (around $2.50 AUD) (put in Ratcliffe Elizabeth only looking at Census, and the years 1851) Hope this is of some help Regards Lesley Melbourne, Australia

    2. Lilie
    3. Hi there,   I am searching for anyone who may have links to my grandmother Lucy Nuttall and her family.    Her parents, James Edward Nuttall (b 1853) and Sarah Whitehead (b. 1856) were married in 1881 at Ardwick Congregational Church, Tipping St (?).    From what I have been told thus far, all of the Nuttall children (listed below) were raised in Manchester.  As of the 1891 census, the family were living in Gorton. Alice (b. 1883) Sarah (b. 1887) Ezra Nuttall (b. 1889) William Nuttall (b. 1890) who later emigrated to the U.S John (Jack) Nuttall (b. 1894) Lucy Nuttall (1900) who after her retirement, emigrated to New Zealand with her husband.   If anyone has a connection with any of these people in their family tree, or any info they care to share, I would love to hear from you.  Regards, Lilie

    3. I am trying to find the most likely ANNIE JONES on the 1891 census. She gave birth in Hulme, Manchester in August 1891 to William WALKER. William's birth cert gives his mother as Annie WALKER nee JONES, and his father as John WALKER a Lurry Driver - but I cannot find a marriage and think she was telling fibs! . The only John Walker on the 1891 that could be the dad, is a Carter aged 30 from Salford who is boarding in Hulme. On the 1901 Census, William (the son aged 9) is boarding with a "Fletcher" family. If anyone has the inclination or time, ideas gratefully received. I have no info prior to this birth cert! - but I do wonder about the visitor on the 1901 - Annie Williamson, a visitor! Pat W
