Hello Kath, You must have the same "Kellys directories" I have :-)) I found the same as you. In the 1895 kellys it may be that Melville Street ran from Conway Ave as far as Anglesea Ave. That would make Melville Street a lot shorter than the full length of Staveley when it was completed. I thought perhaps the street started off as Melville then later became Staveley St. Just a guess. Thanks a lot for your help Kath. Hi, My name is Terry Craven and I am re-subscribing after an absence of about 18month. I live in Melbourne Australia but was born in Harpurhey Manchester. I didn't take an interest in my ancestry until my grandkids started asking questions. Unfortunately They lost interest, while I on the other hand was totally sucked in. I have learnt a lot about people Past and present, about places and history and about myself. No regrets at all :-) My name interests are : CRAVEN, MCGANNITY, BOSWELL, RILEY, SMITH (two lines :-( . At the moment I am trying to find the location of Melville Street, Harpurhey, M/c. I know it no longer exists and I am aware that many other streets, lanes and roads have gone. In 1916 when my grandmother Ellen McGannity was married she was living at 46 Staveley Street, Harpurhey. prior to then she was living at 15 Melville Street, Harpurhey, (1901 census). I have a sneaking suspicion that these two streets could have been one and the same at some time? Any information, ideas or maps would be very welcome. All the best, Terry
Hi Terry, I think you are probably right about those two streets being one and the same. In the 1895 Manchester directory it has Melville st Harpurhey -at Conway ave There is no listing for Staveley st but not every street is listed so it's not 100% certain that it didn't exist then. In the 1929 Manchester directory it has Staveley st - at Conway ave to 107 Upper Conran st This time no sign of Melville st ! Upper Conran st is at 95 Church Lane Moston to Moston lane Hope this helps ! Cheers Kath
Hi Anne, Thank you for your answer. I understand what you mean!!!!! I too have been "barking up too many wrong trees" and I know I am still doing it. I just keep trying anything that looks plausable (even though most are wrong) in the hope, that this time it is going to be right. That is why with the 1841 and looking at the whereabouts, ages off James, Sarah & Charles aged 1. (brother Isaac had not been born at this time), and knowing that James & Sarah had married in 1830, this has always made think that there must have been some more children earlier (who did survive). James & Sarah had my gt. gt. grandfather born in 1840, and another son Isaac in 1843. I felt it was worth a try, that they may be the one's in 1841. The Warburton name has also been spelt in different ways (e.g. Wharburton in 1861, Warbutton on my gt.gt. grandfather Charles's birth certificate. (but with the right parents and area off where he was born from 2 censuses.) Thank you for all your help. Also thank you to Jan and Margaret, I really appreciate all three for your help. Hi Thank you Margaret, But the same is happening as with Jan's images, I cannot get any image off the census? As well as the James & Sarah with 6 children, I would like the image off James and Sarah "WARBURTON" (maybe son charles is with another family member, as I have found this, in many off the families in the WARBURTON line). They seem to leave their children with other family members (mostly grandmother). Also if Thomas & Ann Pilkington have a son "Charles WARBURTON". I would be also interested, as maybe if this child is with them, they may be relatives? Hi List, Would it be possible for someone with access, to lookup in the 1841 census, for "Ashton and Oldham, Bury & Manchester" district for a Charles WARBURTON, age 1 James WARBURTON age approx. 35 Sarah WARBURTON aged approx. 32 or 35. I am hoping that this is a family I have been looking for a long time, and there maybe other children as well. Also if anyone has access to 1851 census for "Barton Upon Urwell, Barton" for:- Isaac WARBURTON aged 7 (whom I am expecting be born in Salford)? And the family that the above Isaac would be living with? Thanks in Advance for any answers. Gisela
If you had relatives that may have moved to Philadelphia to work in the textile mills there, take a look at a new addition, Philadelphia death certificates, 1803 - 1915, on the LDS site at <http://labs.familysearch.org:80> . You may find some ancestors that you didn't know existed. Transcriptions of the death details and images of the death certificates can be printed and/or downloaded. These death certs may contain date of death, full name, sex, age, colour, marital status, occupation, birthplace, duration of residence, nativity of father and mother, place of death, cause of death, duration of last sickness, place and date of burial, name and place of undertaker. Minor's death certs may contain additional info, including the mother's maiden name. A wealth of information! Best wishes, Lynne

Hi List members, l was thinking that Peel Street, Salford would probably not be far from the Church where William Verdon was Minister. Here is a write-up l found when William was moved from Salford to Pendlebury,l thought you may like to read it. The Morning Chronicle,Monday,April 3rd,1854.- Ecclesiastical - The Rev.William Verdon M.A.,Curate of Trinity Church, Salford, has been appointed to the incumbency of St.Johns' Church,Pendlebury, rendered vacant by the preferment of the Rev.C.F.Smith,to the Vicarage of Crediton,Devonshire, Patrons the Bishop of Manchester,Sir B.Heywood and others. Maybe this will be of some help for other list members in some way also,Pauline.
Hi Pauline, Peel Street is in the Greengate area of Salford - I've checked my copy of the 1851 unfilmed census CD and unfortunately the return for # 25 is blank - it must have been too badly damaged even for the marvellous transcribers of the Man. and Lancs. F.H.S. The piece # is HO 107 2223 - E.D.I0 (Letter "I" numeral "0"), book ref.3C - page 18 - perhaps someone with the original census on disc could check this ref - they might be able to decipher a little more knowing what they are searching for, fingers crossed.
