    1. Re: [ENG-MAN] Help or suggestions needed LOUISA BAMFORD
    2. Janet McBride
    3. Hi Jean Have had a look but have been unable to find her in 1891 either. But I did notice that Rowland S on the 1881 and 1891 census appears to be shown as married rather than single...if you look at the other entries nearby you can compare the writing for 1881 and in 1891 they actually write S for single rather than Unmarried. It does seem a fairly odd family - with no one living where they are supposed to be. And then Rowland being married to someone else by 1901. Did you manage to track a divorce down? Did you find Samuel and his wife in 1891(I couldn't see him) - my guess would be that perhaps she moved on to live with another sibling. Janet -----Original Message----- From: eng-manchester-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-manchester-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Jean Thatcher Sent: 01 June 2008 08:10 To: eng-manchester-l@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-MAN] Help or suggestions needed My great grandmother was born Louisa Hill in Salford in 1854, these are the details that I have on her. I think I have the correct birth from Lancashirebmd which I am going to send for.She married my great grandfather Rowland Sykes Bamford at Ogden St. Chapel Ardwick in 1875 and had my grandfather another Rowland in 1876. Now this is where I have a bit of a riddle. I have for Louisa the 1861, 1871, 1881, and 1901 censuses, after she married in 1875 all the censuses state she was married but she was never with Rowland , infact there is only one time that I found her son with her and that was the 1901 census in Blackpool. The 1881 and 1891 census shows Rowland living with his mother Eliza in Ardwick as a single man . In 1901 transcribed as Roland Banford he was shown as married to a Mary Ann and a daughter Clara. It also said he was born in Macclesfield but I think this might have been Mary. When he died a few years later it was his sister that notified the birth. I think I have found Louisa's correct family her father John was deceased when she married but through the censuses I found her 1871 living with her sister Charlotte Blair who was shown on the 1861 census with John and Jane Hill. On the 1881 census she was living with her sister Eliza Wren. The siblings I have found are Charlotte, Samuel and Eliza Ford Hill, there might be a Mary but have not checked that properly. Where she was in 1891 remains a mystery. She was'nt with her son who was in Hulme at the time. 2. Hi Terry, As you have the death and burial dates, if your "some kind soul" pops into the office at the main entrance to Southern Cemetery they may be able to supply the grave reference and map to assist, perhaps for a small donation. They were very helpful when I visited them last year I'm afraid that ,in such a large cemetery you have very little chance of someone "stumbling across" the very grave that you are looking for but best of luck! If you can wait until the web-site is up and running again and you are able to get the grave references feel free to contact me again and I will see if I can fit in a cemetery visit. (I also have interests there) Cheers Geoff, Bolton

    3. G'day, If there is some kind soul walking through Southern Cemetery on a warm summers day and they happen to have their digital camera with them and they also happen to see a grave stone with the name "Charles Frederick Craven" "engraved on it. I wonder if you would mind taking a photo of it for me:-)) CHARLES FREDERICK CRAVEN was a grand uncle of mine. He died 15th March 1958 in Withington Hospital and was buried 19th March 1958 in Southern Cemetery. He was 77 years old. I am sorry I don't have a grave number or any other information that might help locate the grave. Fingers Crossed, Terry Craven

Hi All I have been advised that inmates of various institutions [including jails] were shown in the various census at the end of the enumeration district where they were situated Could someone have knowledge as to which district the jail[s] of Manchester were to be found The person I seek was not listed with his wife & family in the 1841 census. Records show that he had two court convictions, so it was possible that he was in prison at that time---the question is,-- where? Can anyone please assist Thanks Robert From the Roaring Forties

Hello everyone, It's taken me a while but I've finally added the F and G surnames of the soldiers who served in the 2/6th Battalion Liverpool Kings (WW1) to my website: http://www.freewebs.com/liverpoolkings/ It's taking me longer than I thought to find the time to add it all, but if you have an ancestor you would like me to look up in the meantime, just let me know, only to happy to check the book, Tamara - Australia.

    3. I don't have anyone so far by the name of REID, but I do have my great- great-grandmother, Isabella BRADSHAW, who was baptised 11 Oct 1795, in Sacred Trinity Church, Salford, daughter of Alice (n MELLOR) & John BRADSHAW who was baptised at Holy Trinity on 4 September 1768, also in Salford, son of Isabel (n NICHOLS) & Thomas BRADSHAW, baptised 23 Jan 1743, Manchester, son of Hannah (n LEVER) & John BRADSHAW who married in 1732. What I am looking for are the siblings of Isabella BRADSHAW, and whether railway timetable originator, George BRADSHAW fits in somewhere, in fact anything on BRADSHAW in Salford &/or Manchester. My BRADSHAW ancestors were believed to have been heavily involved on the Parliamentary side of the Civil War, particularly the defence of Manchester in 1642, and I'd be interested in any information on this. I was also told that the LEVER name may also be connected with the soap powder manufacturer but I'd need confirming links for this. kind regards Christopher Ridings cnridings@exemail.com.au > > > Message: 1 > Date: Tue, 27 May 2008 19:41:03 +0100 > From: "Ann" <Gordon.Annbrown@btinternet.com> > Subject: [ENG-MAN] REID of SALFORD > > Does anyone have a REID family in their tree please. > my in laws lived at Albion Street Salford from 1896 - about 1930 > I am looking for my mother in laws siblings and their DOB. > I have > Robert 1891 born Salford > Mary 1894 born Salford > Edith 1896 born Salford > Amy 1899 born Salford > John abt. 1902/4 > Henry 1906 died 1933 > Elsie 1910 > Clara 1912 > and several unplaced/undated ones > Edward Thomas another Robert and a William > > I look forward to hearing from anybody with any ideas whatsoever > > kind regards > Ann > **********************************************
